The Nigeria Customs Service on Monday said it has impounded 24 vehicles from smugglers at the Idiroko border area within two weeks. The Outgoing Comptroller, Ogun state Area Command, Sani Madugu stated this at the Idiroko border office of the command while handing over to the new acting Controller, Michael Agbara.
He disclosed that the 12 of the vehicles were smuggled into the country through the Idiroko border, while the remaining 12 were used as means of conveyance for smuggled goods.
He further hinted that within the same period, 252 bags of smuggled foreign rice, 110 jerrycans of vegetable oil and 30 cartons of frozen poultry products were seized.
According to him;
“Within the last two weeks, the command seized 12 smuggled tokunbo vehicles, while 12 other vehicles, used as means of conveyance for smuggled goods, were also intercepted.”
Madugu said he had been transferred to the National Headquarters as the controller in charge of enforcement.
He appealed to serving personnel of the Command and residents in the state to cooperate with the incoming Comptroller to assist ongoing war against economic saboteurs.
