The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is currently presiding over the National Economic Council meeting at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The meeting which started at about 12:20pm is being attended by some state governors. The National Economic Council has the Vice President as Chairman while the state governors, Minister of Budget and National Planning, FCT Minister and the Governor of the Central Bank are members.


The Council in its last meeting approved the withdrawal of the controversial $2 billion from the Excess Crude Account (ECA) to assist the military in fight insurgency in the North East.


Shortly after the approval, some state governors expressed reservation over the development and accused the administration of seeking the withdrawal to finance the 2019 general elections.
