The Nigeria Customs Service says it is poised to generate N1.5 trillion in revenue this year. The Comptroller General of Customs, Hameed Ali (Col/Rtd) stated this on Monday at the first management meeting of 2018 held at the National Headquarters, Abuja.
In a statement issued by NCS Public Relations Officer, Joseph Attah, Ali said the Service was working assiduously towards improving the revenue generated in 2017. He disclosed that N1.37 trillion was generated last year and that the target for this year stands at N1.5 trillion. Other issues that were discussed include the promotion of officers which is awaiting approval by the Board and the review of salaries and payment of bonuses to officers.
The statement also hinted that 577 officers have been retired. The retirement was contained in a circular titled CIRCULAR NO/HRD/2017/003-LIST OF OFFICERS/MEN FOR STATUTORY RETIREMENT IN YEAR 2018 and signed by Sulaiman M.S.J, Comptroller Establishments.
“The officers included a Deputy Comptroller General, an Assistant Comptroller General, 11 Comptrollers, 27 Deputy Comptrollers, 27 Assistant Comptrollers and 23 Chief Superintendents of Customs. Similarly, the Service carried out promotion and redeployment of some officers as contained in a statement issued some weeks ago by the Service National Public Relations Officer, Joseph Attah.
Among those promoted in acting capacity were Isa Talatu Mairo to Deputy Comptroller-General Tariff and Trade; Amajam Bukar, Controller, Federal Operations Unit Zone C, elevated to the rank of Assistant Comptroller-General, Enforcement, Investigation and Inspection and David Elisha Chikan as ACG (Human Resources and Development).’’
The CGC charged the newly promoted officers to be professional in the discharged of their duty and work toward achieving the mandate of the Service
