Afghanistan forces killed an Islamic State commander in an air strike, one year after he defected from the Taliban and established a new IS foothold within the country, security officials said. Rueters reports that, Qari Hekmat was killed in a drone strike on Thursday afternoon in the Darz Aab district of Afghanistan’s northern Jawzjan province, said Hanif Rezaee, spokesman for the Afghan National Army Air Corps.

Three Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces during fresh protests on Gaza's border with Israel, Palestinian health ministry officials say. The Israeli military said troops had opened fire when people attempted to breach the fence on the frontier. The protesters are demanding that refugees be allowed to return to ancestral lands that are now in Israel.

Park Geun-Hye

Former South Korean President, Park Geun-hye was on Friday sentenced to 24 years in Jail by a South Korean court over allegations of bribery and corruption as well as abuse of power.

According to Al Jazeera, the disgraced former president was found guilty of several corruption charges, abuse of power and coercion in a verdict issued on Friday. She was also fined $16m.

A gunman has shot and killed four staff at a university in Eskisehir in north-western Turkey. Turkish media say the attacker is a research fellow at the city’s Osmangazi University and has been detained. The state run news Agency said those killed were a deputy dean, a faculty secretary and two lecturers. Three others were wounded in the attack.

The Russian government has started legal proceedings to block the Telegram messaging app in the country. The Roskomnadzor media regulator is seeking the block because the firm has refused to hand over encryption keys used to scramble messages. Telegram, which is based in Dubai, was given a deadline of 4 April to hand over the keys.

China has warned United States President, Donald Trump that it was ready to pay any cost in an event that both countries resort to trade war. The Chinese Government made this known in a statement issued by the Ministry of Commence on Thursday.

The statement is coming after Trump had warned that he was considering $100 billion in extra tariffs. Trump had said he would impose steep tariff on steel and aluminum imports. On Tuesday the US had published a list of $50 billion in Chinese imports set to be hit by US tariffs.

A Myanmar pilot died on Tuesday after a “technical failure” caused his military jet fighter to crash into a paddy field in the centre of the country, the army said. A live video on Facebook showed flames billowing up from the crash site near Kyunkone village about an hour away from the capital Naypyidaw.
