As part of his commitment to sustain the fight against climate, former New York mayor and billionaire Michael Bloomberg said on Sunday he will pay $4.5 million to cover this year's US financial commitment to the Paris Climate Agreement. President Donald Trump announced his decision to withdraw from the Paris deal in June last year, saying the accord would have cost America trillions of dollars, killed jobs, and hindered the oil, gas, coal and manufacturing industries.

U.S. President Donald Trump invited his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to the United States during a phone call, and said he would be glad to see Putin in the White House, RIA Novosti reported on Friday, citing the Russian Foreign Ministry. The news agency quoted Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov as saying Trump returned to the subject of an invitation a couple of times during a call last month and that Russia was now expecting Trump to formalize the invitation.

A Florida high school student shot and wounded a classmate on Friday as students around the country were poised to stage walkouts to protest gun violence. The Sheriff’s Office for Marion County said the suspect was in custody following the early morning shooting at Forest High School in Ocala, Florida.

A Roman Catholic priest, Father Juan Miguel Cantreras Garcia, 33, has been reportedly murdered in the west-central Mexican state of Jalisco, the second priest killed within four days in the country. According to a statement from the Mexican Bishops’ Conference, Father Garcia was attacked and killed by armed assailants while performing the sacrament of penance at a parish in Tlajomulco de Zuniga, on the outskirts of Guadalajara.

The Federal Aviation Administration has ordered the inspection of more jet engines like the one that was involved in this week's fatal Southwest accident. An engine on a Southwest jet exploded over Pennsylvania on Tuesday, and debris hit the plane. The Southwest Airlines aircraft suffered an engine failure which forced it to make an emergency landing on Tuesday. The aircraft uses the same engine as Arik Air and Air Peace, two of Nigeria’s leading airlines.

The Democratic Party sued Russia, Republican President Donald Trump’s campaign and WikiLeaks on Friday, charging that they conspired to disrupt the 2016 U.S. presidential election, a court filing showed. The party alleges in the federal lawsuit in Manhattan that top Trump campaign officials conspired with the Russian government and its military spy agency to hurt Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and tilt the election to Trump by hacking Democratic Party computers.
