The Director-General of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yusha'u Ahmad, has urged corps members currently undergoing their orientation exercise in the 2023 Batch 'B' stream One to ensure they acquire adequate vocational skills through the initiative of the Scheme's Acquisition and Development program. The DG said the Scheme's objective is to tackle the difficulties of getting a white-collar job by the corps members after their youth service in the country with a very good alternative.
The DG tasked corps members to be active, to ensure they gain much from the Scheme's initiation during his welcoming address to the corps members in Katsina, and Borno States respectively in their NYSC Permanent Orientation Camps.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the NYSC, Eddy Megwa, on Monday.
Ahmad told corps members that the three weeks of in-camp training they are about to partake in was purposely designed to expose them to entrepreneurship, while the post-camp training will enhance their skills towards achieving self-employment.
The DG stressed that skills acquisition is the only way to curtail the continuous rise of unemployment in the Country.
He urged the corps members to take full advantage of the Scheme's Skill Acquisition and Development program to develop their potential and have financial freedom in their carrier.
Also, the DG warned the corps members not to violate the dress code of the NYSC adding, “The era of wrong dressing is gone. You must always dress well, don’t dress anyhow because every wrong dress attracts sanctions and if you are wrongly dressed, you would not be allowed to enter our offices”.
He further Emphasised the full participation of the corps members in all camp activities and the use of the Scheme's four cardinal programs, which comprise the "Orientation Course, Primary Assignment, Community Development Service and Winding-Up/Passing-Out" to create friendships and use them to positively impact their host communities.
