The Benue State Police Command says it has arrested eight herdsmen in connection with the recent attacks on some communities in the state.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Moses Yamu, made the announcement in a statement signed by him, a copy of which was obtained by Channels Television on Wednesday.

He said the suspects were arrested in two local government areas of the state following a gun battle with the police.

The Nigerian Army on Saturday said about 1,050 Boko Haram terrorists had surrendered to troops in Lake Chad and Monguno general area of operations.

The army who also warned that many of the insurgents are on the run as their enclaves in Lake Chad region came under intense onslaught, urged adjoining communities to watch out.

Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Operation Lafiya Dole, made the disclosure in a statement issued in Maiduguri.

A suicide bomber killed 11 people on Wednesday in an attack on a mosque in northeast Nigeria, the epicenter of the conflict with Islamist insurgency Boko Haram, military officials said. According to Reuters, the bomber hit the mosque in the town of Gamboru Ngala, in Borno state, near Nigeria’s border with Cameroon, during dawn prayers, said Ali Mustapha, an aid worker.
