President Muhammadu Buhari is on a one-day official visit to Borno State to assess security challenges in the North-East and inaugurate some state projects. This was disclosed on Wednesday by Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum in a statement titled, ‘Thursday: Why Buhari deserves Borno’s rousing welcome.’
Zulum said,” President Buhari has regularly demonstrated deep compassion and love for Borno State. Not long ago, President Buhari approved the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to establish a power plant for us in Borno. This aims to address our electricity problems in Maiduguri and environs.”
“President Buhari has also approved the take-off of a Federal Polytechnic in Monguno. The President is also likely to approve a Federal College of Education for Borno.”
Zulum also said the president is expected to inaugurate the first phase of 10,000 housing units built for the resettlement of IDPs.
Similarly, the Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, General Lucky Irabor led Service Chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police to the Theatre Command of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, Borno State ahead of the president’s visit on Thursday.
Irabor said, “The greatest challenge before the military and other security agencies is how to restore peace in the entire region, stressing the need for collaborative effort to end the crisis.”
General Irabor said the purpose of their visit is to strategize and address the security challenges ravaging the people of the North East.
