6 students and two staff of Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic in Zaria Kaduna State, who were kidnapped on 11 June by bandits have been released. The Public Relations Officer of the polytechnic, Abdullahi Shehu, said the kidnapped students and staff regained their freedom after their parents and relatives negotiated with the bandits. He, however, did not say specifically if any ransom was paid or not.
The school authorities will receive the students later in the day at a location where they were kept after their release, he added.
A group of gunmen invaded the main campus of the institution and kidnapped eight students and two lecturers on June 10, 2021. They also shot and killed one Ahmad Muhammad, while Haruna Isyaku Duniya received medical treatment for gunshot injuries.
The polytechnic's spokesperson, Abdullahi Shehu, announced on Thursday, July 8 that the hostages were released on Thursday night at an undisclosed location in Kaduna.
