After a nationwide protest the Organised Labour has suspended its national protest and has stay action after holding a meeting with president Tinubu yesterday at the state House, Abuja. This was contained in statement issued by the Presidential spokesperson on communication, Media and strategies, Dele Alake. The leaders of the organised labour, Joe Ajero for the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC and his counter pert for Trade Union Congress, TUC, Festus Osifo were at the presidential villa, Abuja where they have agreed to stop the protest after president Tinubu made some promises.
The two groups, organised labour and the executive had a long discussing bordering on the welfare of Nigerians where they have agreed in the courage of president Tinubu of open consideration on all the issues put forward by the labour leaders before they accepted to sheath their swords.
The labour opted for further constructive engagement with the government to resolve all outstanding issues as they affect the working people and Nigerians in general.
Recall The NLC, TUC, and other affiliate unions have been demanding a reversal of the government’s decision on the removal of fuel subsidy which has thrown Nigerians into difficult hardship forcing some families to go hungry.
The labour resorted to protest after the industrial court gave an order restraining the labour from going on industrial action in June which was their first option against the Tinubu led administration.
After holding the protest for the substantial part of the day across the country, the labour leaders were invited to the Aso Rock Presidential villa by the executive where they met with President Tinubu.
During the meeting, Mr Tinubu gave his commitment to the labour leaders that the Port Harcourt refinery would start production by December after the completion of the ongoing rehabilitation contract between NNPCL and Italian firm, Maire Tecnimont SpA.
He also assured the labour leaders that he would continue to work for the best interest of Nigeria, while pleading with them to join hands with him to birth a better and economically buoyant country.
According to labour, President Tinubu, has pledged to ensure that an agreement is reached on the Wage Award for Nigerian workers immediately.
More so, Tinubu also promised to unveil a workable roadmap to the CNG alternative next week.
The president immediately directed the restructuring of the framework for engagement in line with the input of the Labour leaders.
The workers described the removal of fuel subsidy, hike in school fees and VAT as anti-people policies.
