Following the failed negotiation between the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, verses the Federal Government on labour matters that have been lingering since removal of the fuel subsidy by the President Tinubu administration, the, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, have declared a nationwide industrial action. According to the NLC, the strike action would commence on 3rd October, 2023 where they called on all their nationwide branches to comply.
The two unions declared their stance today shortly after the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting in Abuja calling on its members across the country that its their last option.
Briefing pressmen shortly after the meeting, the NLC president, Joe Ajaero stated that the strike action is coming inevitable due to the lackadaisical attitude being exhibited by the federal government towards the labour during their last meeting.
He said, the Executive Council of the two unions have unanimously agreed to proceed on industrial action after appraisal of certain issues coupled with the lack of will by the federal government to shift ground after the removal of the petroleum subsidy.
On his part, the TUC president, Festus Osifo buttressed that effective from 3rd October, 2023, all workers across the federation are directed to withdraw their services till further notice.
