The House of Representatives members has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, and his sister security agencies to secure the safe release of the seven kidnapped National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members kidnapped in Zamfara state by terrorist bandits. This followed the adoption of a motion moved by Unyime Idem (PDP, Akwa Ibom) and eight others at the Plenary on Tuesday, saying the corps members have been left to their faith and only god knows the hell they are passing through.
Presenting the motion, Idem recalled that eight corps members from Akwa Ibom State serving in Zamfara state were abducted by terrorist bandits on August 17 while on their way to their Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) and their abductors had demanded N200 million before they could release them from captivity..
He lamented that similarly, “In May 2023, seven corps members were kidnapped in Rivers State on their way from the orientation camp in Ondo State and were only released after ransom was paid on their head.
He added, “The incident accounts for the many other corps members who have had to go through the traumatic experience of abduction in the course of their service to the nation.”
He said if the incident is not handled properly might be able to mar the core objective of the NYSC.
Meanwhile, he urged the security agencies to step up their game in securing Nigeria as their core mandate.
