President Tinubu Confers GCON Title on Awujale Of Ijebu Land

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has today conferred the second highest national honour of Grand Commander of Order of Niger (GCON) on the Awujale, a paramount traditional ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, for his immense and invaluable contributions towards national development. The traditional father received the title at the 90th birthday ceremony celebrated at the Oba Sikiru Adetona School of Governance, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun state.


The Nigerian leader was ably represented by his vice president, Kashim Shettima today at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, for a book presentation on “Reinventing Governance in Nigeria”, as part of activities marking his 64th coronation anniversary as a Paramount ruler and his 90th birthday at the same time. 

Describing the royal father, Tinubu said, he is extraordinary royal father in his contemporary and a hero of Nigeria’s democracy who has become envy of all good people across the country for his sincerity of purpose and courage in the face of any adversity threatening national development. 

Concurrently, the ceremony also featured the inauguration of Oba Sikiru Adetona School of Governance, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State. 

Meanwhile, the President also announced that the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos has been directed to take over the management of Oba Sikiru Adetona School of Governance which the royal father bequeathed to the university.
