The Governor of Rivers state, Nysom Wike has reportedly sacked six Chairmen of Caretaker Committees in the state. The dissolution of the Committees was announced in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Kenneth Ubani. The statement called on the affected Chairmen of the Caretaker Committees to handover all Council properties to the Local Government Permanent Secretaries.

The sudden dissolution of the Committee may not be unconnected with the New Year Day massacre where 21 persons were reportedly killed by unknown gunmen while returning from the Crossover Service.

The incident has triggered stern criticisms from the opposition including the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi who has called for his immediate impeachment.

Meanwhile, the Governor has placed a cash reward of N200million on information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
