Acting President - Yemi Osinbajo

The Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, today assigned portfolios to the two ministers who were recently sworn into the federal executive council. Stephen Ocheni, from Kogi State, is now the minister of state for labour while Suleiman Hassan will resume as the minister of state in the ministry of power, works and housing.

Former State Governor of Kano state and the Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial District, Rabiu Kwankwaso has denied media reports that he has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The Senator made the clarification on Tuesday in a statement issued by his Personal Assistant, Nafiu Umar Dankura. 

Sokoto House of Assembly Impeaches Deputy Leader

The Sokoto State House of Assembly says it has impeached its Deputy Leader, Alhaji Kabiru Ibrahim (APC- Kware), following a no-confidence vote passed by members.

The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Justin Okonoboh, has been impeached, by the lawmakers at the Assembly complex in Benin City, Edo State capital. The lawmakers moved in quickly elect Honourable Kabiru Ajoto, as the new speaker of the assembly.  In his address, Honourable Ajoto noted that 16 lawmakers initially met and decided to file an impeachment notice on the impeached speaker.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued the Federal Government 21 days ultimatum to meet the demands of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to facilitate the suspension of ongoing strike or face nationwide action. The National President of the Association, Chinonso Obasi stated this on Tuesday in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja.

Justice Abdulaziz Anka sitting at a Federal High Court in Lagos has fixed Wednesday, 16 August, to rule on whether to proceed to hear a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, more popularly known as Evans. The Judge adjourned the case on Tuesday after listening to the submissions of counsel to Evans, Olukoya Ogungbeje; as well as the counsel to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Eze.

Yesterday, a Coalition of Civil Society Organizations comprising Youth groups in Nigeria launched a pro-Buhari Campaign tagged "Remain and Restore" in Abuja to counter an ongoing protest by "Concerned Nigerians who are seeking the "Return or Resignation" of the President. The leader of the Coalition, Solomon Adodo who addressed members during the launch stated that the protest by Concerned Nigeria was targeted at instigating social unrest in the country.
