The apex Igbo socio-cultural group “Ohanaeze Ndigbo” on Thursday has congratulated President Buhari over his victory in a just-concluded election of February, 23. President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressive Congress (APC) was declared the winner of the presidential polls by the INEC having scored 15,191,847 votes, winning in 19 states of the Federation.
Buhari defeated 72 other candidates, including Atiku Abubakar the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who pulled 11,255,978 votes winning 17 states and the FCT, to take the second position.
Chief Uche Ukwukwu, the secretary-General of the Ohanaeze gave the congratulatory message on behalf of the group while briefing Newsmen in Enugu.
In his words, “the Ohanaeze Ndigbo heartily rejoices and congratulates President Buhari, GCFR, on his well-deserved victory at the Presidential polls on February, 23.
The group added, “His victory as revealed by the majority votes is a clear indication that he has been in the right track in the last four years of his stewardship.
“Ndigbo are deeply happy that Mr. President secured more votes in Igbo land than he got in 2015.
“We enjoined all Nigerians and the international community to accept the verdict as the election was adjudged free, fair, credible, transparent and peaceful.
“Ohanaeze is calling on all and sundry not to heat up the polity through unguarded utterances and actions,’’ he said.
Okwukwu added that the Ohanaeze leadership would be meeting with President Buhari next week to present to him an official congratulatory message on his well-deserved victory.
He, however, said that the group would seize the occasion to present to Buhari their demands for infrastructural boost up for the entire Igbo-speaking communities in the country.
