Emerging reports revealed that officials from the Ministry of Finance have arrived Kano to commence payment of compensation to poultry farmers who suffered colossal losses following the outbreak of bird flu in 2014.
The Director, Veterinary Services, Kano state Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Shehu Bawa made this known in a chat with NAN. Bawa disclosed that a team of investigators had arrived earlier to commence verification of farms affected by the outbreak. He hinted that the aim of the exercise was to ascertain whether the figures submitted to the government agree with what is on ground.
“The team is in the state to verify all affected farmers whose farms were ravaged by the disease in recent years. So we hope farmers will give the team the necessary support and cooperation to ensure the success of the assignment,” he said.
Vigil360 gathered that most poultry farms in Kano State have closed down following the outbreak of the flu in 2014. Meanwhile, the affected farmers are expected to be compensated after the verification exercise.
