The Upper Chamber of the National Assembly was mid Wednesday, thrown into pandemonium after hoodlums disrupted its proceedings and made away with the mace, the Chamber’s symbol of authority.

Shortly after the disruption, Senator Aliyu Abdullahi, Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, issued a statement claiming the hoodlums were led by suspended Senator, Ovie Omo-Agege and described the action as “an act of treason.”

The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Stuart Symington, has called on Nigerians to take away their focus from what will happen in 2019 and rather concentrate on how to make the country better before the next general elections.

The US envoy, who spoke at an event organised to mark the 2018 World Earth Day in Ibadan on Monday, called on Nigerians, whom he described as the ship, to find solutions to their problems from within, saying that the people should place themselves above their leaders, who were only at the helm of affairs for a while.

Rochas Okorocha, governor of Imo state, says he will succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

The governor said this on Monday when he hosted some political stakeholders at the state government house in Owerri.

They had visited him to endorse Uche Nwosu, his chief of staff and son-in-law, as the next governor of the state.

The Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, on Monday said the World Bank would not grant the loan requested by other states if Kaduna is not included.

Kaduna had applied for a loan of $350 million for the development of infrastructure, but while the Senate approved those of six other states, it rejected that of Kaduna State on the grounds that it is heavily indebted.

Speaking while declaring opened the 2018 Law Week of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Barnawa branch, Kaduna, El-Rufai said Kaduna met all the conditions for the loan, yet it was rejected by the Senate.

President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians that the current administration under his leadership, will not betray their trust. “We will do our best to justify your trust in us, and that confidence won’t be abused,” President Buhari pledged. The President spoke in London Sunday while receiving the Buhari Diaspora Support Organization, led by Mr Charles Efe Sylvester.
