The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in a statement on Saturday confirmed the arrest of 67 irregular migrants from the Republic of Niger.

The spokesman of the agency, Mr Sunday James said that the foreigners were intercepted by the Special Border Corps of the NIS while trying to enter the country via Niger State, noting that the comptroller of the service in the state, Mrs Hornby Onimin, was in control of the operation.

He also said that the migrants had been profiled and would be repatriated soon.

Dr. Ibe kachikwu

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, has been named among 100 Most Influential Africans of 2017 by a London-based magazine, the `New African’.

A statement by Mr Idang Alibi, the Director, Press and Public Relations in the ministry, said Kachikwu was chosen in the category of Business and Finance.

The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, on Friday replied the critics of President Muhammadu Buhari over the comments he made about the influx of armed herdsmen in the country.

President Buhari had on Wednesday in London said that the killer herdsmen were allegedly trained and armed by the late Former President of Libya, Muammar Gaddafi.

The Senator Representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has alleged that some people are aiming to tarnish his reputation and silence him, using security agents.

The lawmaker, on Friday, in a tweet on his verified Twitter handle, @ShehuSani said some people are abusing power and plotting to use security forces to frame him.

“Those who abuse power by thinking that they can use security forces to set us up in order to silence us or tarnish our reputation have taken on the wrong person. They will always fail as they usually do,” his tweet read.

A community in Cross River State determined to stop work on the proposed $1 billion Calabar Virgin City project, by emplacing a traditional embargo on the land. This followed its dispute with the state government over the acquisition of the land meant for the venture. The Clan Head of the community, Ntoe Ededem Okon Ayito, disclosed this yesterday.
