The Industrial Court in Owerri, today, restrained the Imo State Government or its agents from circulating a certain form to pensioners which seeks to compel them to sign off 50% of their pension entitlement.

The State Government is by the ruling, expected to stay action on the issuance of the said forms pending the determination of the substantive suit brought before the court by the State Chapter of National Union of Pensioners (NUP).

The Court has reserved ruling on the matter for July 5.

Pensioners in Imo State have been on the warpath with the Government over plans to compel them to indemnify the State Government of any liability in payment of only 50% of their monthly pension entitlement.

The State Government had hinged its decision to pay only part of the entitlements on the then prevailing economic recession.
