Senior Lawyer, Robert Clarke (SAN) says the possibility of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct general elections in 2019 appears to be slim. Clarke who stated this in an interview with Sun predicated his position on prevailing realities in the country. He maintained that it would be dangerous if INEC conducts elections under the current political arrangement.
“I doubt that the 2019 election can hold in this country under these circumstances that we are going, except the political parties sit down together and restructure this country. Going into election in 2019 under the 1999 Constitution portends danger to democracy."
“We have all said it, and it is still going to play, that our system of choosing candidates within the political party is the most corrupt system in the whole world, where a candidate that tries to vie for the position of a governor has to spend well over N5 billion just to get the nomination of his party."
“We shouldn’t allow such. So, we have to restructure and restructuring is to jettison the 1999 Constitution; it creates problem that bother on corruption and leads to people who want to get into governance to steal money to recoup what they spent while contesting,” he added.

The wife of Ikemba of Nnewi and former Ambassador to Spain, Bianca Ojukwu on Saturday defeated her late husband's first son, Chief Emeka Ojukwu Jnr in the ongoing Anambra state Governorship election. Bianca Ojukwu who spoke with newsmen after the result of her polling unit, Umudim Central School, in Nnewi North LGA was announced by the Presiding Officer expressed optimism that her Party, the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) would win the election.
According to her, “In my area, APGA is winning. I believe we will go on to win the election.”
A breakdown of the result from the unit indicates that APGA had 261 votes, APC 98 while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 80 votes.
Ojukwu Jnr had this week defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the grand rally of the party attended by President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Oyegun, 12 state Governors, Ministers and other stakeholders.
He claimed that the decision to join the APC was in accordance with his late father's philosophy of reconnecting Ndigbo back to the centre. He said politicians using his father's image to solicit for votes were doing so in their selfish interest.
