Plateau United picked up the only away win of the Nigeria Premier Football League matchday 23. The Jos based team beat Sunshine Stars FC of Akure, 2-1. The visitors were trailing 1-0 at half time, but equalised half way through the second half when second half substitute Emmanuel Odafe latched onto a pass to level the game.


However, controversy trailed the match when against the run of play United took the lead from a throw in.


The home team protest to the referee that the goal was from a handball infringement.


Play was stopped for over 15 minutes as the home team goalie, David Ariyo, appeared to hit the assistant referee on the chest. Ariyo was shown the red card and sent off. The home team played the rest of the game with a man down.


The away team held their nerves to take 3 points to extend their lead by 5 points.
