President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday commended the Home-based Super Eagles for beating Sudan 1-0 to qualify for the final of the 2018 CHAN in Marrakesh, Morocco. The President in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adeshina said he joined other football loving Nigerians in celebrating the brilliant performance of the team and assured of government support to enable them win the tournament.

The statement reads in part;

“Having keenly followed the team’s progress throughout the tournament with delight, the President commends their hard work, dedication, discipline and indomitable spirit, which are truly worthy of emulation. President Buhari urges the players and the coaching staff to remain focused and determined as they go for gold in the final match on Sunday. The President assures them of the unflinching support, goodwill and prayers of the Federal Government and all Nigerians as they soar to victory.”

Also, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has congratulated the Super Eagles for emerging victorious against Sudan to qualify for the final. He maintained that the victory demonstrates what the nation can achieve when we are united, focused and committed.

His series of tweets on his verified Twitter handle read;

“our @NGSuperEagles have made it to the finals #CHAN2018. We can learn from their success – proof of what can happen when we are united, focused and committed. Sad that @NGSuperEagles has lost her goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa early in the game but glad we didn’t lose the initiative, as we are now in the lead.”
