The construction of Dangote Tomato factory in Kaduna state has commenced after a protracted land dispute between the company and six communities on whose lands the factory is being constructed. The commencement of the construction work followed a recent crucial meeting between the officials of the company, officials of Kabau Local government and representatives of the six affected communities. The communities include Karreh, Gajagaja, Tudun Gaya, Kwadaro, kacita and Ganiwa all in Kubau Local Government of the state.
Vigil360 gathered that the leaders of the communities had initially opposed the commencement of work at the site following delay in the payment of compensation. The villagers had said since the project would deprive them of their ancestral homes and farmlands, they must be adequately compensated.
Speaking after the meeting, the Managing Director of Dangote Tomatoes, Abdulkareem Kaita, who led officials of the company to the meeting said the people of the community stand to benefit a lot from the project when completed.
He said, having established that members of the community are good in tomato farming, his company decided to site the factory there in order to enhance productivity and boost harvest. He added that the company would support the community in farming by providing the necessary logistics to increase yields and profit.
