A reports published yesterday by mercer.com tagged "23rd Cost of Living Survey", listed Lagos and Abuja are among the 60 most expensive cities in the world.
The report which listed Lagos as 29th and Abuja as the 59th most expensive cities attributed the development to the cost of goods, security, and prices of goods for expatriate employees.
Some African Countries included in the report are Victoria, Seychelles in the 14th position, N'djamena, Chad in the 16th position and Kinshasha, the capital of Democratic Republic of Congo which was ranked 18th. Cities in Europe that were included in the list are Zurich, Geneva, and Bern which ranked fourth, seventh and 10th respectively.
The least expensive African cities were listed by mercer to include Gaborone, Botswana in the 196th position; Cape Town, South Africa ranking 199th and Blantyre, Malawi ranking 205th.
Mercer, a New York based firm is the world largest human resources consulting organization with over 20, 500 employees with offices across 40 countries. It operates internationally in more than 130 countries. It is the subsidiary of global professional services firm, Marsh & McLennan.
