Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has yesterday said the proliferation of arms and light weapons has been identified as the major source that is fuelling the insecurity in Nigeria.

Osibanjo disclosed this during a meeting with service chiefs and Presidential Committee on Small Arms and Light Weapons at the presidential Villa, Abuja.

President Buhari had, during the last National Security Council meeting, directed the Vice President to chair a committee and review the committee report.

The Vice President said Buhari was keen on an effective and quick solution to the menace because “the problem we have at hand is really enormous” Osinbajo added.

He assured that soon, a clear-cut set of strategies to frustrate and contain the proliferation of the small arms and light weapons would be developed.

He called on the service chiefs to develop the clear-cut, specified line of action that would be tailored towards containing the menace associated with small arms and light weapons.
