The Police in Lagos state said it intercepted a truck-load of cattle coming from Zamfara State which also had on board 42 passengers hidden in it, on Monday, May, 4.
The truck which had the people hiding underneath the cows to avoid being detected were caught during a stop and search operation around Berger Bridge by a joint security team led by the Lagos State Taskforce on Environment.
The latest discovery has confirmed accusations that commercial drivers maybe smuggling people between states despite thereby flouting President Muhammadu Buhari's directives banning interstate travels as a means to contain further spread of COVID-19.
The speculations suggest that the drivers paid between N10,000 and N20,000 to agents at checkpoints to allow them to move passengers especially to Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Kwara and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In Kwara, 50 persons, comprising men, women and young children hidden underneath fruits in a truck loaded with fruits were also discovered. They were immediately sent back to Zamfara were they Journeyed from.
