The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, has sworn in 8 Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, increasing the number of Justices of the apex court from 12 to 20. The CJN presided over the ceremony which involved the 8 new Justices taking the oath of office and oath of allegiance to the Nigerian Constitution. They joined the remaining 12 Judges on the bench after completion of their swearing-in. The newly inaugurated Judges who were recently elevated from the Court of Appeal bench include Justices Lawal Garba (North West), Abdu Aboki (North West), and M.M. Saulawa (North West).
Others from other geopolitical zones are Justices Adamu Jauro (North East), Tijani Abubakar (North East), Helen Ogunwumiju (South West), Samuel Oseji (South-South), and Emmanuel Agim (South-South).
The Senate confirmed the appointment of the 8 nominees on October 13.
