The Kidnapped Emir of Kajuru, Alhaji Alhassan Adamu, has regained his freedom from his captors on Monday. Thirteen other persons abducted from the monarch’s private residence including his daughter, however, remain in captivity. Ibrahim Inuwa Kajuru, a former chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists in Kaduna, confirmed the monarch’s release. It is unclear if any ransom was paid but the bandits earlier demanded N200 million for the release of the 85-year-old monarch. A source close to the family of the Emir said he is in good health and will be taken to the hospital for medical examination.
It was gathered that the emir was discovered at a nearby forest by his subjects while on their way to the farm.
His release was coming after a source had earlier revealed that the bandits had contacted the emirate and were demanding N200 million as ransom for the emir and members of his family.
Gunmen had on Sunday morning abducted Kajuru and 13 of his family members in his palace.
It was gathered that the gunmen numbering over 200 stormed the emirate, firing gunshots, before proceeding to the Emir’s palace and taking him and 13 members of his family away.
