The Comptroller General (CG) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Muhammad Babandede has retired after serving for 36 years. Babandede was appointed as Comptroller General on May 15th, 2016.
The Deputy Comptroller-General, Finance, and Account, Idris Jere is now acting CG until President Muhammadu Buhari appoints a new head of the service.
Babandede is notably known for several reforms in the service including the digitization of passport operations and also the decentralization of passports issuance.
He was also instrumental in enacting the policy on the much-acclaimed Visa-on-Arrival.
During a valedictory session organized on Friday in honor of the outgoing immigration boss, Babandede said, “I have left the immigration better than I found it.”
Babandede was Comptroller General for five years and four months.
