The sixth batch of Nigerian evacuees from Ukraine have on Saturday arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. A total of 301 Nigerians, including students trapped in Sumy, Ukraine, were evacuated from Budapest, Hungary to Abuja via Azman Air, flight AZM2351. According to the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), the evacuees were provided with free sim cards loaded with airtime to contact family members, courtesy of a partnership between NiDCOM and telecom company, MTN.
Also, evacuees also received 100 dollars for transportation as the batches that arrived before them.
The students had earlier flooded social media, appealing to the Nigerian government to evacuate them from Sumy.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama replied, saying the Nigerian government had planned to evacuate stranded Nigerians from Sumy.
