Banditry: Zamfara State Government Suspend Emir For Turbaning Bandit As Chief

The Zamfara State Government has suspended the Emir of Sabon Birnin Yandoto, Tsafe local Govt Area of the state, Aliyu Garba Marafa, for turbaning an infamous repentant bandit kingpin, Adamu Aliero, as Sarkin Fulani of the community. The suspension order was contained in a statement by the secretary to the state Government, Kabiru Balarabe, and was made available to the press last night.
Accordingly, the statement partly reads, “This is to inform the general public that the Zamfara State Government has dissociated itself from the alleged turbaning of a Sarkin Fulani by the Emir of Birnin ‘Yandoto of Tsafe Local Government Area”. 


“In this regard, the State Executive Governor, Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, MON (Shattiman Sokoto) has directed for suspension of the Emir with immediate effect. 

Consequently, the statement added that the Governor has approved a committee to investigate the matter and report back to the state Government the circumstance that lead to the appointment of a bandit kingpin as local chief of a community. 

Meanwhile, Alh. Mahe Garba Marafa, the sitting District Head of ‘Yandoto has been assigned to take charge of the affairs of the Emirate pending the outcome of the investigation. 

It was learned that the suspended Emir conferred the title on the bandit celebrated in a colorful way last Saturday at his palace in Yandoto.
