The Federal Government (FG) has announced that the Abuja-Kaduna Train Services is set to resume on Monday, December 5, 2022. This was disclosed by the Managing Director (MD) of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), Fidet Okhiria who said that all train services along that route are set to resume and also advised passengers to start updating their mobile app from Saturday, December 3, 2022 in order to successfully book their train tickets.
He said, “AK 1 will depart Idu Station at 9:45hrs and arrive Rigasa Station at 11:53hrs. KA 2 will depart Rigasa at 8:00hrs and arrive Idu station at 10:17hrs.
“AK3 will depart Idu Station at 15:30hrs and arrive Rigasa Station at 17:38hrs. And KA4 will depart Rigasa at 14:00hrs and arrive Idu Station at 16:07hrs.
The Minister of Transportation, Mua’zu Sambo had said on Tuesday that passengers need to provide their phone number and National Identification Number (NIN) before boarding the train.
According to him, “Now, we have introduced a new system before you buy a ticket. Your purchase of a ticket requires you to provide a phone number and a National Identification Number (NIN) in order to profile because that is the beginning of the security checks.
“So, at any point in time when a train moves from one station to another, we know who and who is on board. If you don’t have a National Identification Number (NIN) you are not going to board our train. It is simple as that”.
This is one of several security measures put in place by the FG, following the train attack on the Abuja-Kaduna route on March 28 by terrorists where more than 10 people were killed and more than 60 others were kidnapped.
