The Director General, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Dr Abbas Idris has confirmed that two persons sustained severe injury and (37) others have been rescued from a collapsed plaza in Garki, Abuja.
A two-storey plaza at Lagos Street, Garki Village in FCT, Abuja collapsed on Wednesday night amid heavy downpour.
Idris said, “Thirty-Seven persons have so far been rescued and evacuated to hospital, others reportedly still trapped. Rescue team and others are on ground. Rescue operations on but slowly due to ongoing rain”.
The DG added that efforts are being made to ensure that people trapped in the rubble are evacuated as soon as possible.
He commended the efforts of all stakeholders working hard manually to rescue trapped persons, including members of the community, as the team awaits the arrival of equipment to enhance the operations.
