The Senate delegation will meet with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday (today) over an allegation by Senator Bukola Saraki against the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris. According to the Punch, Senate President, Saraki, had on Wednesday alleged that Idris planned to implicate him in the trial of some suspected cult members arrested in Kwara State.

Senator Iyiola Omisore

The former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, on Saturday announced his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and formally declared for Social Democratic Party (SDP). Omisore, in a press statement he personally signed and made available to newsmen in Osogbo, gave a vivid historical allusion to his political career since 1999, saying his new political move would remain irrevocable and irreversible.

As the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) holds it state congresses on Saturday, some hoodlums disrupted the exercise of a faction of the party in Ondo state. The Ondo state factional congress involved those loyal to the suspended Chairman, Mr. Isaacs Kekemeke. The hoodlums stormed the venue in Akure, the state capital armed with sticks and clubs and attacked delegates and members as well as newsmen at the venue.

The House of Representatives has said that a clean copy of the 2018 budget will be on the table of President Muhammadu Buhari within one week from the date of passage. The National Assembly passed the N9.12tn budget on Wednesday last week after the Appropriation Bill had spent more than six months at the legislature.

The National Democracy Stakeholders Group (NSDG), a pro-democracy and non-profit organisation, says President Muhammadu Buhari will lead the 2018 edition of Democracy Solidarity Walk. NSDG’s Convener, Mr Kletsaint Akor, told newsmen on Sunday in Abuja that President Buhari would lead the walk scheduled for May 29 at the Eagles Square, Abuja.

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed satisfaction with the current level of relationship between Nigeria and the United States.  The President, who spoke on the issue when he received a telephone call from the U.S. Secretary of State, Michael Pompeo, also used the opportunity to congratulate the new Secretary of State on his appointment.
