The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr John Odigie-Oyegun, has officially announced his stepping down from the race for re-election. Mr Oyegun made the announcement Friday evening at a press conference at his Abuja residence during an interactive session with journalists covering the activities of the party.

A member of the seventh House of Representatives and governorship aspirant in Ekiti, Opeyemi Bamidele, and one other person have been shot. The shooting took place at the All Progressives Congress secretariat in Ajilosun, Ado-Ekiti, during a reception organised for the governorship candidate of the party, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

Justice Adebukola Banjoko of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Gudu, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a former Governor of Taraba State, Jolly Nyame, to 14-year imprisonment for criminal breach of trust by misappropriating the sum of N1.64bn preferred against him by the EFCC.

Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for signing the “Not-Too-Young-To-Run” Bill into law and urged him to assent to other bills transmitted to him by the National Assembly. Ekweremadu, who is also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution, on Thursday said the new amendment to the Constitution would open up the political space for the Nigerian youth.

President Muhammadu Buhari has fulfilled his administration’s third-anniversary promise by signing into law, the `Not Too Young To Run Bill’. While signing the bill on Thursday, the president, in a banter mood, ‘appealed’ to young people to defer their presidential ambitions till after the 2019 general elections.

The Benue State House of Assembly on Wednesday passed a Bill to prohibit marriage contract between persons of the same sex in the state. Cited as Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Law, 2018, the bill was passed at plenary after a clause by clause consideration by the Committee of the whole presided over by the Speaker, Mr Terkimbi Ikyange.
