A High Court sitting in Kogi state on Wednesday granted the embattled Senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye bail on health ground. Justice Naair Ajana granted Senator Melaye bail to the tone of N10m and one surety in like sum.
Senator Melaye was arraigned before a Magistrate Court few weeks ago after an Abuja High Court had earlier granted him bail on a separate matter. Despite being on medical admission at the National Assembly, the Police moved the Senator to Lokoja and arraigned him on stretcher to the consternation of some human rights lawyers including Femi Falana (SAN). He was thereafter remanded in prison till June before his counsel appealed the ruling.
He had since been in Police custody although the Court ruled that he should be allowed access to medical services. Melaye is still at the National Hospital pending when he would perfect his bail condition.
