A repeat of the 2015 senate leadership's debacle seems to be in the offing as the senator representing Borno South Mohammed Ali Ndume has disagreed with the position taken by the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that Senate Leader Ahmad Lawan should be the next Senate President.
According to Dailytrust, Lawan was recommended as the next Senate President by the Adams Oshiomhole-led APC national leadership to President Muhammadu Buhari during a meeting with senators-elect for the 9th Assembly in Abuja on Monday night.
Ndume who had earlier written a letter to the National Chairman of the APC expressing his intention to contest the position accused the party of taking a unilateral position without due consultation. He stated this while briefing newsmen in Abuja. He claimed that the senators-elect were not consulted before the decision was taken, noting that majority of the APC senators were not happy with the decision.
He further warned that the decision of the party was not in line with President Muhammadu Buhari's position. He hinted that both Buhari and the national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu had all given him their blessings.
