President Muhammadu Buhari is today scheduled to depart Abuja to attend the I4th edition of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
The Summit which holds on Friday, 31st May will be hosted by King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the King and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia and also attended by Heads of States and Governments of Member States.
The summit themed "Makkah al-Mukarramah Summit: Hand in Hand toward the Future" aims to develop unity
President Buhari is expected to address the forum, urging member states to work together to combat security challenges like terrorism and violent extremism. He will make proposals for themes including investing in Nigeria to create jobs and financing for development as well as reviving the Lake Chad Basin.
According to Mallam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, the president will hold bilateral meetings with world leaders to promote cooperation and collaborations to tackle issues of mutual threats.
Buhari, who is the third Nigerian leader to attend the summit, following the late Umaru Musa Yar'adua and Goodluck Ebele Johnathan is scheduled to return on Sunday, June 2 alongside Governors Gboyega Oyetola of Osu State, Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger and Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State.
Others among the delegation are Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mustapha Suleiman; Director General of National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ahmed Rufa'i Abubakar; Director- General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Dr Isa Ali Pantami; and Chairman, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Abdullahi Mukhtar.
