A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja (FCT) has suspended the All progressive Congress (APCs) planned National convention that was slated for March 26th, 2022 indefinitely. In a suit marked FHC/HC/CV/2958/202, the presiding Judge Justice, Bello kawu ordered APC to stay action on its planned National Convention pending determination of the suit filed before the court. Although, another source within the APC revealed that the party was working hard to ensure that the court vacate the order before Thursday this week so that APC would go ahead with its convention as planned.
Accordingly, Mr. Salisu Umoru has approached the High Court dragging the APC, its Chairman Extraordinary Convention planning Committee, Governor Mai Mala Buni, and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) challenging the planned Convention.
In the motion, No FCT/HC/M/9655/21, the plaintiff prayed the court for an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the 1st and 2nd defendants, allies, agencies, representatives, associates, or whoever is acting for them from organizing, holding, or conducting national convention of the APC in January and February or at any other date either before or after, pending the hearing and determination of the suit.
Umoru informed the court that a mere inauguration of sub-committees for the March 26th National Convention, while an order of a honorable court is still in force, is flagrant disobedience to a court order.
The court has fixed March 30th, 2022 for the continuation of the hearing of the substantive suit, while no date has been fixed yet for the commencement of contempt proceeding against the progressive party.
