Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has kicked against a planned consensus arrangement for a Presidential candidate being coordinated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2023 general election. Wike described consensus arrangement as rubbish and deceptive that some vested interest deploys to hoodwink other loyal party members of the PDP. Wike made this statement while having a meeting with some party delegates in Calabar, the Capital of Cross-River state yesterday, insisting that consensus happens only on equity, justice, and fairness, but not through backstabbing.
The Governor recalls telling former Senate President, Bukola Saraki that he is not a party to consensus in the party.
According to Wike, “I am not here for any consensus rubbish. I have told people not to deceive our party members with fake news about consensus. We all believe in consensus, but it must come with equity, justice, and fairness.
He added, “When some of my colleagues led by the former Senate President came to me, I told them I would not fall into the consensus trap. If you want to run for election, please run, and if you are not ready, please go home.
The governor chided the team that they want somebody that would bow down to them as against what the country requires, for now, a courageous and fearless leader.
The PDP caucus like Former Vice president, Atiku Abubakar, Bukola Saraki, and other aspirants has been rallying other members to cave in for a consensus candidate in the PDP.
