Members of Islami Movement of Nigeria (IMN), on Monday shutdown the Federal Secretariat Abuja, in a sustained protest seeking the release of their detained leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky. The aggrieved protesters who were mainly youths condemned the continued detention of Sheikh El-Zakzaky, claiming that despite court orders, the government had failed to release him.

According to Punch, the protesters chanted “Free El-Zakzaky, free El-Zakzay,” before chasing away a police team and overturned a traffic warden cabin around the Federal Secretariat. The Policemen had been deployed to restrain the protesters from going into restricted area.

After chasing away the Police, the youths took over roads in the area, with many scampering for safety.

Meanwhile, the FCT Police Command when contacted said reinforcement had since been deployed to contain the situation.
