The Federal Capital Territory Administration has revealed that over N1bn has been spent by the current administration to power street lights and procure power generating set in the nation's capital. The Coordinator of Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Hajiya Safiya made the disclosure on Friday during a meeting with some contractors handling some of the power projects in the Territory.
According to her, the FCTA acquired about 22 generating sets to support lights and five of the generating sets have been installed along the Herbert Macaulay Way, NEPA Junction and Wuse Zone 6 to power these areas.
She urged the contractors to "always work hand in hand to attain the goal of brighter streets at night".
She stressed that "if there is no synergy among all the contractors, we will be in perpetual darkness."
She also cautioned them "not to strive to outshine one another, but work together for the interest of the FCT. Always put the generating sets off when there is power from the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) so that the administration does not pay double."
