The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday disclosed that it will next Monday, release a revised timetable and schedule of activities, as it resumes the recall process for the Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye.

In a statement signed by the Commission’s Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC) member, Mallam Mohammed Haruna, INEC said it move was in line with the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja which dismissed the Senator’s suit seeking to nullify his recall by his constituents.

The Senator had also approached the court with an ex parte motion restraining the electoral body from proceeding with his recall exercise then scheduled to commence in July. The order was granted on July 6.

But in vacating the ex parte order and dismissing the substantive suit, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba on Monday ordered INEC to “proceed with the recall process.”

The Commission in the statement, said with the latest judgment, “all legal hurdles have now been cleared and the recall process can now proceed as envisaged by the Constitution, the Electoral Act and the extant INEC guidelines and regulations” and that in compliance with orders of the court, it will “release a revised timetable and schedule of activities on Monday 18th September 2017.”
