President Muhammadu Bhuari on Friday, received Justices of the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen, who paid his a courtesy visit at the Presidential Villa.
The Apex court Judges were also joined on the visit by their counterparts from the Court of Appeal and the High Court. Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Justice Abubakar Malami was also at the meeting.
State House correspondents report that President Buhari commended the CJN for setting up a Committee to monitor anti-corruption cases, headed by former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami.
The President also called for the establishment of courts in prison yards to speed up decongestion and especially, address logistics constraints in transporting prisoners to court.
The National Judicial Council, NJC, under the chairmanship of the CJN, had on September 27 at its 82nd meeting, approved the establishment of the Corruption and Financial Crime Cases Trial Monitoring Committee, to be headed by Justice Ayo Salami.
The Council said the Committee will among others, monitor and evaluate proceedings at designated courts for financial and economic crimes nationwide and advise the CJN on how to eliminate delay in the trial of alleged corruption cases.
Meanwhile, the CJN raised the matter of welfare of judicial officers with the President at the meeting, who subsequently directed that the AGF should take it up with the salaries and wages commission.
