The senator representing Nasarawa West, Abdullahi Adamu, has accused some lawmakers on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of sabotage.
Senator Adamu who made the allegation while reacting to the proposed change of election sequence in Nigeria, however, did not name the lawmakers.
Addressing a delegation of APC members from Nasarawa State on Monday, he argued strongly that championing a course against the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 is an act of sabotage that the leadership of the party should never tolerate further.
The lawmaker was recently removed as Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum over an allegation of financial misappropriation up to the tune of N70million
He swiftly denied the allegation that he mismanaged funds belonging to the forum, stressing that the accusation was false and baseless.
Senator Adamu, however, noted that his removal as chairman of the forum was politically motivated.
He claimed that he was removed because he disagreed with the decision of the Senate to change the sequence of elections in the Electoral Act.
2019 Polls: Jega Faults National Assembly Over Election Sequence
The presidential and National Assembly elections are always conducted on the same day before other polls, while the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections follow.
Lawmakers at the National Assembly had, however, amended the sequence such that the National Assembly polls would be conducted first, and followed by the state lawmakers and the governors while the presidential election should take place last.
The Senate was divided over the adoption of the conference committee report on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Act 2010 (Amendment) Bill at the Upper House on February 14.
Senator Adamu had faulted the amendment as partisan and pre-determined by members of a political party threatened by the President.
Also reacting to the amendment, the immediate past INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, challenged the power of the National Assembly to alter the sequence in which elections are conducted.
