Presiding judge at a federal high court, Abuja, Justice Gabriel Kolawole, has withdrawn from the trial of Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser (NSA).

Kolawole announced his decision in court on Thursday during the cross examination of Hassan Sheidu, an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operative, serving as a witness in the trial of Nicholas Ashinze, a colonel in the Nigerian army.

Kolawole, who accused the EFCC of frustrating the trial and attempting to hijack the court proceedings, returned the case file to Abdul Kafaratithe, chief judge of the court, for re-assignment to another court.

The House of Representatives says it will override President Muhammadu Buhari on the Peace Corps of Nigeria establishment bill as well as nine other bills.

Abdulrazak Namdas, the spokesman of the house, announced this during a press briefing on Wednesday.

He said the lawmakers have commenced the process of overriding the president on the 10 bills.

Buhari had rejected the Peace Corps bill, citing duplication of functions and lack of funds as his reasons.

Erstwhile suspended lawmaker, Abdulmuni Jibrin has resumed plenary at the House of Representatives. Jibrin, who had been on a 17-month suspension, on Wednesday resumed plenary after the suspension placed on him was lifted by the House. He was pardoned on Tuesday, March 13 after writing a letter apologising to the House and having met all conditions given to him.

One of the candidates seeking to succeed Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state, Senator Babafemi Ojudu has said he is the only politician that can defeat the incumbent governor and his candidate in the forthcoming governorship election, haven defeated him earlier in senatorial election and single handedly ensured his impeachment in 2006.

Embattled Senator Abdullahi Adamu has accused the Senate of sabotaging the government of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmaker who represents Nasarawa West Senatorial District made the allegation in a statement by him on Tuesday.

He is one of the lawmakers who opposed the amendment of the election sequence by members of the National Assembly, a development that has sparked mixed reactions in the country.

Advising his colleagues, Senator Adamu said: “I believe we need to retrace our steps and reconsider our stand as legislators on matters of public interest. Our party, APC, has the majority in both chambers of the National Assembly, yet we hold the executive prisoner of politics that are unhealthy for the polity.”

Following plans by some members of the National Assembly to override President Buhari's decision to withhold assent to the recently passed Electoral Act Amendment Bill, some Senators including Ali Ndume and Abdullahi Adamu have moved to frustrate the effort. Speaking with Dailytrust on Tuesday, Senator Ndume said over 43 senators have indicated interest to ensure that the amendment is forgotten because it is not in the interest of the country.
