The independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has finally given nod by the court to conduct the supplementary election in Adamawa state on Thursday, March 28. The announcement was declared by the court on Tuesday a moment after it lifts its restriction on the commission to conduct the re-run.
The INEC resident commissioner in charge of Adamawa state, Kashim Gaidam, revealed the commission has made adequate arrangement for the polls coming up in two days.
A state High court sitting in Yola, Adamawa state had vacated his earlier order restraining INEC from conducting the governorship supplementary election in the state.
Abdul’Azez Waziri, the presiding Judge also ruled that it has the jurisdiction to hear the case filed before it by, Movement for the Restoration and Defence for Democracy (MRDD), a political party.
Accordingly, the governorship election in Adamawa had been declared inconclusive weeks after the INEC stopped the process because of insufficient margin between the two contending giants APC and PDP to march the cancelled results.
In his ruling on Tuesday, the court fixed Wednesday, March 27, to hear the originating motion by MRDD praying the court to void the first Adamawa governorship election conducted on March 9.
The party alleged that INEC had removed its logo during the election.
