The leadership of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may suspend ongoing industrial action today, after a crucial meeting billed to take place this evening. A source in the union who craved anonymity told Vigil360 that "after aggregating decisions reached across the various institutions, most of the members of the National Executive Council of ASUU are favorably disposed to the suspension of the strike to allow for immediate resumption of academic activities."
Recall that the Government delegation comprising the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige and that of Education, Adamu Adamu had presented new offers to the aggrieved lecturers on Thursday last week for consideration.
In that meeting, ASUU requested for one week to enable them present the offer to its members for consideration. The meeting today would avail ASUU the opportunity to give feedback to the Government and take a position on the development.
Recall that ASUU had declared a nationwide strike on August 14 over alleged refusal by the Federal Government to honour earlier agreement it entered with the Union.
