The Federal Executive Council has given the Minister of Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, matching orders to end fuel crisis across the country by end of the week.
The directive was among key decisions reached at Wednesday’s meeting of the Fedearl Executive Council (FEC) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Fuel queues, long forgotten across the country, emerged at the turn of the week against the backdrop of speculations among oil marketers that there was an impending increase in pump price of the product by government.
The NNPC however, in a release on Monday, quickly debunked the speculations. The corporation insisted that the ex-depot petrol price of N133.38 per litre and the pump price of N143/N145 per litre have not changed and that it has enough stock of fuel to ensure seamless supply and distribution of products across the country.
Also, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Kacalla Baru, Tuesday, cut short his trip to London, as concerns increased over the sudden fuel queues nationwide.
Meanwhile, Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, during the meeting insisted that the government had no intention to increase pump price of petrol.
